Tom Cruise reveals the title of the Top Gun sequel…

June 5th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Do you feel the need? The need… for speed?

Because if you do then we have exciting news. Tom Cruise has revealed the title (probably) of Top Gun 2.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, Cruise, promoting his new movie The Mummy, was talking about sequel and how they don’t always “need a number”.

He went on to say: “Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one … but a progression for Maverick.”

Maverick was, of course, Cruise’s character in the first movie, so – shock – it seems the sequel will focus on him.

Cruise also confirmed that Harold Faltermeyer who scored the first movie, will be back to score the sequel which will be “stylistically” similar to the original.

We reported recently that TRON: Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski was likely to helm the movie (here) and that alone has us excited for it as we feel that Kosinski is a very under-rated director (we’d kill to have him make a Star Wars movie).

That’s all we have you crazy adrenaline junkies but as we hear it, you’ll get it.

Top Gun: Maverick will fly in on July 19th, 2019

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
