The Transformers franchise is one of the most divisive in fandom.
Some of us love them, some of us hate them and some of us are in the middle ground (I love one and three, think two had potential and fourth was bile) but it’s one of those things that, despite being burned, we always hope that the next movie will knock it out of the park… so, we have another 19 years of that anticipation to look forward… another four movies, in fact.
Speaking at the MIP Junior Conference 2015, Stephen J. Davis, President of Hasbro Studios and Entertainment and Licensing for Hasbro, said there’s a big plan for the future of Transformers.
“You’re going to see a new Transformers movie coming from Hasbro and Paramount and Michael Bay and our other partners,” Davis said.
“In fact, we just finished – as some of you may have read (FTN Covered it all here) – an incredible experience. We decided we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a 3 month period of time…nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with — shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind, and written a bunch of great movies. And they plotted out the next ten years of Transformers. Similarly we are doing the same in television and digital. So stay tuned Transformers 5 is on its way. …And 6 and 7 and 8.”
I’m sorry, I know I should know better, but I can’t help be excited for these. I’ll be in my room if anyone wants me.
The Transformers writers room included Steve DeKnight (Daredevil), Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Hibernation), Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand), Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Lindsey Beer (How To Nail An Alien) and Christina Hodson (Unforgettable).
The fifth movie may well be directed once more by Michael Bay and is rumoured to star Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager again. It will be written by Akiva Goldsman.
