TRON 3 “is not dead” says star Garrett Hedlund

So earlier this year we almost has a seizure at the news that Disney had apparently pulled the plug on TRON 3 over the performance of Tomorrowland (here), basically telling the world that if it’s not Marvel or Star Wars, they’re afraid to take a chance.

This didn’t sit well with us, given that TRON already has a built-in fanbse, but anyway…

Now it seems that star of 2010’s TRON: Legacy, Garrett Hedlund, is saying that the trilogy closer is certainly on hold but by no means is it dead:  “I haven’t been told it’s totally dead… Ever since we did Legacy, we knew that to have another story follow it up, it had to be concrete and exciting. Disney needed to have the right story to go forward. I think it was going to introduce some things that were as exciting as Legacy was and then some.

However, he did seem sure that, while it might be a while away, it is on the cards: “Who knows, maybe it’ll be like Legacy was to the first TRON, it’ll be 30 years, and I’ll have my young Flynn CGI face, who knows? But they could do it anytime from now, and I would of course jump back in. Something like that could be quite fun, though!”

We’re thrilled that TRON may not be dead in the water yet… but we really hope it’s not 30 years away. Or is that just us?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
