Venom 2 is happening and Spider-man may be part of it…

December 12th, 2018 by Marc Comments

So, as expected, Venom 2 is in the works at Sony.

Venom, while not getting great reviews (I, personally, really liked it and embraced its silliness) did really well at the box-office and with the fans, so we suspected a sequel was likely.

And, as we’ve reported on many times (this is the best round-up article), it seems that Spider-man is once again on the table to appear.

So, co-writer of the first movie, Jeff Pinker, has been speaking about the sequel and had this to say: “I can’t say anything other than that it is happening. I am not [involved]. As of right now, I am not.”

As for the appearance of spider-man, he added: “Without revealing anything that I’m not allowed to reveal, it is not impossible that in a future/upcoming Venom movie, Spider-Man will play a significant role.”

Now, this is very interesting because the deal between Marvel and Sony for Spider-man in the MCU ends with the upcoming Spider-man: Far From Home. Curiously too, the way the dee worked out, star Tom Holland is signed on for one more movie, but not necessarily with Marvel.

What does this mean? Well, it means that if Sony decide to take Spidey back, they could conceivably make Tom Holland star in a movie for them solely.

Honestly, I can see the deal with the two companies ultimately seeing Spider-man existing in the MCU and Sony’s universe, and maybe even starring Tom Holland. Let’s be honest, so long as the two franchises don’t contradict each other, they could easily co-exist.

And, let’s be honest, after the great performance of Venom, teamed with Into The Spider-verse being a contender for movie of the year, we reckon Sony want him back.

Things could get interesting once Far From Home gets released.

But hey, Venom II is coming and, given the mid-credits scene of the first movie, we’d have to imagine Carnage is set to be the big bad this time out.
