A while back Fast 9 director Justin Lin revealed that the movie would mark the franchise’s end with it being the first movie in a trilogy of sorts that would wrap up the core series (here) – but don’t fret, there’s still the Hobbs and Shaw movies and other planned spin-offs (here).
And now star, Vin Diesel confirms this and expands on the idea a bit more: “Every story deserves its own ending,” Diesel said during a press junket for the new movie.
“I know people are going to feel like it doesn’t have to end, but I think all good things should,” he continues, “There are reasons for a finale. I think this franchise has deserved it.”
The new movie, which opens on June 24th, may be the beginning of the end, but we still have another two movies to look forward to before the end: “This franchise was born from the pavement, from the concrete,” Diesel concludes, “The world just championed this underdog to a place where it has already surpassed all of these other franchises. But the franchise has a soul, and that soul has to rest.”
I, for one, have become a big, big fan of the franchise over the years, so I don’t want it to end, but I’m happy that it has enough clout to ensure it has a proper send-off… now we have to wait to see what further adventures we’re going to get in other movies and TV shows to keep the story alive in some form.
Thoughts on the end of the Fast franchise?
