Vin Diesel is making a M.U.S.C.L.E movie. You’ll be forgiven if that means nothing to you…

If nothing else the follow story is maybe confirmation that we make have finally run out of nostalgic crap to turn into movies and Hollywood might start to come up with original stories again.

Vin Diesel either really loves making movies or he really loves getting paid lots of money to talk in a gravely monotone and look tough.  As the possibilities of being in another Fast and Furious move may be decreasing due to his on going feud with The Rock it is looking likely that Vin going to step into a new franchise based on the some weird 1980s fleshy action figures called M.U.S.C.L.E (Millions of Unidentified Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere).

Details on the movie are being kept under lock and key other than some studio executives saying it will be an action/comedy and be a bout muscly thing.  Vin is a very muscly thing who is adept at both action and comedy,so he definitely fits the part.

For those of us who are unaware of M.U.S.C.L.E, according to Mental Floss, M.U.S.C.L.E. figures originated in Japan. The figures were the toy line for Kinnikuman, a manga introduced in 1979 by Yudetamago, the pen name of creative duo Takashi Shimada (writer) and Yoshinori Nakai (artist).

When Kinnikuman first debuted in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, a manga anthology magazine, it was billed as a parody of popular chojin (superhero) staples like Ultraman and Superman. Instead of being an impressive figure, though, the titular fin-headed hero was an inept, bumbling wannabe who was reluctantly called upon to fight the bad guys when all the other chojin were busy. As the series matured, the stories shifted focus to an intense intergalactic form of professional wrestling…

So there we have it, a movie based on a niche toy line and Manga that most of us either don’t know or remember, this one could go the way of Battleship: The Movie or could be a massive sleeper hit we didn’t expect if done correctly and the correct character rights are secured. Also the term Intergalactic form of Professional Wrestling does kinda sound like a winning formula for a movie.
