Wan non-commital on either Affleck and/or Keaton Batman appearances in Aquaman sequel

Man, oh, man, what we could have had.

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom finally, after several delays, getting released this Christmas, we now know it’s the last movie in the DCEU that was and, as such, we’re wondering what it will be exactly.

Specifically, many fans are wondering if we’re in for one last epic team up, more specifically, will we see Batman or more specifically still, will we see several Batmans/Batmen?

See, because Aquaman 2 and The Flash were delayed so much, it was unknown if Micheal Keaton or Ben Affleck would be Batman in the movie after Batman’s cameo was confirmed. See, in The Flash, after the titular hero changes the events of the past, Affleck’s Batman was replaced by Keaton’s in the DCEU, so depending on when the movies got released, and in what order, it was hard to know which Batman would appear and, at one point Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, teased more than one Batman in the movie!

Were we going to get Affleck and Keaton again, as was the case in The Flash? Exciting times.

Yes! Ben Affleck is back as Batman in Aquaman sequel… but for how long?

However, it seems that our hopes are set to be dashed one last time in the DC Unvierse.

In a new interview, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan addresses the filming of scenes with Affleck and Keaton and seems to dash any hope of either appearing on our screens this December.

“The tricky thing early on was not knowing whether Aquaman would come out first or come out after [The Flash],” says Wan, “so, we just had to be prepared. At the end of the day, the best thing I would say about this movie is that it is not connected in any way to any of those films.

That’s the bottom line. So, Batman does not appear in Aquaman 2? “That’s a ‘no comment,’ right now, you’re going to have to wait for the movie to come out.”

Man, fair play to Wan for at least trying to play it coy but it’s pretty clear from what he says that the chances of both appearing are nearly none and the chances of even just one appearing are slim at best.

Affleck and Keaton are my favourite incarnations of Batman and it was a real treat to have them both on-screen in The Flash earlier this summer but the spoilt child in me really hoped that we might see them again at least once more before the DCEU ends but that’s looking less and less likely.

Black Adam! Batgirl! Flash! Keaton’s Batman! Here’s a round-up of all the DCEU rumours

Director James Wan and Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa—along with Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman—return in the sequel to the highest-grossing DC film of all time: “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
