Could we be looking at a new Harry Potter movie on the horizon?
Word has it that Warner Bros, twelve years after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and three Fantastic Beasts movies, are looking to return to Hogwarts… and the original gang.
Yes, word is that WB are looking into producing a new Harry Potter movie based on the West End’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play.
This was an official sequel to the Harry Potter books and movies and was based on a story by creator Rowling herself.
The Cursed Child follows Harry’s son Albus and Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius in a time-travelling adventure. Yes, really. Excitingly though, The Cursed Child would feature the original cast as their older, adult selves.
In the story we meet Harry, Ron and Hermione when they have become parents and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are now around the right age for the story.
“Warner Bros are currently looking at how to bring The Cursed Child to the big screen,” says the new rumour, “It has been in their sights since the play proved to be so popular in the West End. It went onto the backburner for a while because there was so much work going on with the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
“A line has been temporarily drawn on that for now, especially given its lacklustre performance, so it’s full steam ahead when it comes to developing The Cursed Child. At the moment it is in very formative stages and they are discussing the next steps to move it forward.”
Two years ago Warner Vros CEO Jason Kilar proudly announced Harry Potter as a jewel in their crown of upcoming endeavours: “There’s this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises. And we’re incredibly thankful to be able to partner with JK Rowling and so I would argue there’s a lot of fun and potential there as well.”
We have always felt that, given the passage of time, making a Cursed Child movie was a waiting game… perhaps the wait is almost over.
We’d return to Hogwarts in a heartbeat, no questions asked. Would you?
