WATCH: Is Batman in the Blue Beetle movie? He might be…

November 29th, 2022 by Marc Comments

It looks like the DCEU, which is now working full throttle on being more connected, is set to pull Blue Beetle firmly into its fold with the possible inclusion of the world’s greatest detective.

In a recent interview, actor George Lopex, who appears in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie – which is looking set for a 2023 release at this point – as the grandfather of Jaimie Reyes, the Blue Beetle of the title, played in the movie by Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña.

The movie also stars Susan Sarandon as the villain of the piece, Victoria Kord. The movie was feared scrapped after Batgirl was canceled earlier this year but unlike that movie, it seems the powers that bee like the look of Blue Beetle and have pushed some extra money at it to make it a big deal in cinemas (it was a HBO Max movie originally).

On with the story, in the interview Lopez discusses the movie and his role in it but right at the end, he says “I think Batman is in our movie!”.

Could Batman be in the movie? Might the WB suits have added him in? If so, will it be Ben Affleck’s Batman or will it be Michael Keaton’s Batman who, we’re hearing is still a large part of next year’s Flash movie?

Whoever has the cape and cowl, it’s a big result for Blue Beetle and another potential member of the Justice League down the line?

PS This is all extra interesting when you know that James Gunn, who is now overseeing the development of the DCEU, has revealed that Blue Beetle’s partner in crime in the comics, Booster Gold, is one of the characters fans are asking him to bring to the screen the most: “Interestingly, Booster was the MOST requested character when I asked people on Mastodon what character they’d most like to see on screen. I’m not creating stories by public vote, but I found it fascinating nevertheless.”

In fact, way back in 2016 a movie featuring the duo was all but ready to go (here) with Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion keen for the gig(s) but it never happened after the reaction to Batman V Superman saw the DCEU completely derailed.

Maybe this time… and yes, I know it’s not the same Blue Beetle, but this movie will open the door for all sorts of things…

Anyway, here’s the interview

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
