WATCH: New trailer, details, posters and images arrive for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

December 3rd, 2023 by Marc Comments

All the way from CCXP in São Paulo we have new trailer, posters and stills from the upcoming fifth movie in the Monsterverse series, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire as well as new details on the movie from Godzilla Vs Kong and The Guest director Adam Wingard.

The trailer and all the goodies, except the main poster above, are down the page.

Anyways, so, we already know that, after the events of Godzilla Vs Kong, this new movie will see the two Titans unite to battle a new, deadly threat to the monsters and the humans, but little else is known as of now.

Speaking about the new movie, the director, who has now got two Monsterverse movies under his belt, says he’s up for a third, should the opportunity arise, saying hat now he has the hang of it, he’s raring to do more: “The skills that it takes to create a giant monster movie are so specific that you have to learn them, and only at the end of production was I like, ‘Oh wait, now I know.

“I had all these different ideas of what I would do next time and how I could improve upon it.”

But how much of the new movie, focusing on the battles between giant Titans is real? Well, not very much, it seems: “So much of the film is entirely animated CG shots; so much of it is just pure imagination,” Wingard says, “We have some sequences going up to about eight minutes long, where it’s just the monsters doing their thing, and so the movie really allows the monsters to tell their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way.”

But what of the new threat? Well, Wingard describes him as a “devilish, Kong-type character,” who we’re guessing is the red print in the new character poster below.

New character/Titan posters:

“We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that’s really hard to do. There’s a lot more to this character and how he’s a threat, and that’s going to be something that’s going to be fun to kind of dole out.”

As well as returning franchise stars Rebecca Hall as Dr Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes and Kaylee Hottle as Jia, The Guest star Dan Stevens will be reuniting with Wingard for this new adventure in the lead role: “In the back of my head, I was like, you know, If I do another one of these, I gotta get a role for Dan. And so we kind of tailormade this role for him. And I think it’s the most fun character in the entire Monsterverse in some ways.”

The Monsterverse, thanks in no small part to the Monarch TV series, has become one of my new obsessions, so, along with Godzilla: Minus One later this month, I’m loving all the Monster content and can’t wait to see this in April.

This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Following on from Godzilla, the franchise has also included Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and most recently Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021 and it looks like this new movie will draw from the lore of all the other movies as well as opening it up for the future.

War begins on April 12th, 2024
