WATCH: Oliver’s Halloween video review 3: Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners

October 23rd, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Another Halloween treat today as Oliver video reviews what is in my opinion (Ed) Peter Jackson’s finest hour, yet one that so few know…

The Frighteners (1986)

1996 saw the release of The Frighteners. Peter Jackson’s first big budget film for Hollywood. Shot in his home town of New Zealand and starring Michael J Fox in his last feature film in a lead role. Fox plays Frank Bannister a local con man who can see ghosts and uses them to spook people out and he pretends to exorcise them for fee. During his hauntings he encounters a figure that people refer to as the Grim Reaper which has been plaguing the town.

The Frighteners was a box office bomb on release despite positive reviews from the critics. Many say it failed due to its summer release and failed marketing. Even though it failed on release its popularity grew quickly on home video and DVD and it has become a fan favourite with horror fans.

Let’s take a look at why…

I'm an LA journalist who really lives for his profession. I have also published work as Jane Doe in various mags and newspapers across the globe. I normally write articles that can cause trouble but now I write for FTN because Nerds are never angry, so I feel safe.
