WATCH: Shazam! Fury of the Gods trailer is here and it’s messy… but we still think the movie will rock

The trailer has arrived for Shazam! Fury of the Gods and it looks like there A LOT going on.

Don’t get me wrong, I cannot wait for this as I’m a massive fan of the original Shazam! but this trailer is very, very busy and feels like it reveals a fair bit of plot. Basically… it’s messy.

But it’s fun to see  Levi and the team back and it’s really exciting to have Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren as the villains of the piece.

It’s just such a pity we don’t know what’s happening with the DCEU moving forward because I would love to have seen Shazam! meet Black Adam down the lint but now it’s unlikely this will ever happen.

Still, hearing reports that Mark Strong’s Doctor Sivana will be appearing in the movie, presumably as a late addition since he was confirmed not to appear a while back, so we’re wondering if perhaps James Gunn still has plans for this Shazam! cast of characters in his new DCEU.

From New Line Cinema comes “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” which continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!,” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.

“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” stars returning cast members Zachary Levi (“Thor: Ragnarok”) as Shazam; Asher Angel (“Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson; Jack Dylan Grazer (“It Chapter Two”) as Freddy Freeman; Adam Brody (“Promising Young Woman”) as Super Hero Freddy; Ross Butler (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) as Super Hero Eugene; Meagan Good (“Day Shift”) as Super Hero Darla; D.J. Cotrona (“G.I. Joe: Retaliation”) as Super Hero Pedro; Grace Caroline Currey (“Annabelle: Creation”) as Mary Bromfield / Super Hero Mary; Faithe Herman (“This Is Us”) as Darla Dudley; Ian Chen (“A Dog’s Journey”) as Eugene Choi; Jovan Armand (“Second Chances”) as Pedro Pena; Marta Milans (“White Lines”) as Rosa Vasquez; Cooper Andrews (“The Walking Dead”) as Victor Vasquez; with Djimon Hounsou (“A Quiet Place Part II”) as Wizard.

Joining the cast are Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”), with Lucy Liu (“Kung Fu Panda” franchise) and Helen Mirren (“F9: The Fast Saga”). The film is directed by David F. Sandberg (“Shazam!,” “Annabelle: Creation”) and produced by Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Suicide Squad”).

New Line Cinema presents A Peter Safran Production of A David F. Sandberg Film, “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” which is set to open in theatres in North America on March 17th, 2023.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer.
