Universal Pictures has just released a Red Band trailer and poster for Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2 and we’re kind of underwhelmed to be honest.
It doesn’t feel like it has any of the edge that made the first movie so funny – it was a hit at FTN Towers – and feels like it’s retreading familiar territory. But hopefully we’re wrong.
The plot of the sequel has Ted (MacFarlane) and new wife, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) wanting to conceive a child. The first hurdle they encounter is Ted’s inability to reproduce, leading the couple to seek a sperm donor. That leads to bigger problems, however, when it comes into legal question whether or not Ted truly has the right to raise a child.
A follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time (also helmed by MacFarlane, Ted grossed more than $549 million worldwide), Ted 2 features the return of Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Lone Survivor), this time joined by Amanda Seyfried (A Million Ways to Die in the West, Les Miserables), Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight trilogy, Lucy), Dennis Haysbert (“24,” Dear White People) and Liam Neeson (Taken, A Walk Among The Tombstones).
Co-written by Ted‘s Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, Ted 2 is also produced by MacFarlane alongside Jason Clark, John Jacobs and Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber. Look for it in theaters June 26.
