What’s next for the Scream franchise? What about the TV series… possible developments on both fronts

October 3rd, 2013 by Marc Comments

I am an unashamed fan of the Scream movies – well, except three, it’s awful – so I am always excited to hear where the series will go next and it looks like there may be some movement in future stories in the Scream universe both on small screen and big.

According to Dark Horizons, Harvey Weinstein, attending the Zurich Film Festival, has hinted that he has an interest and a plan for a fifth Scream movie: “Everyone lived in Scream 4. I’m begging him [Bob, Harvey’s brother] to do the movie and just end it. We’ve milked that cow.”

I love the idea of final closure on the Scream story of Sydney Prescott; I loved the scene near the end of Scream 4 when it looked like she really was going to die and the killer was free – I loved that idea. So hopefully they’ll have the nerve to do it properly this time.

As for the TV series that is being talked about at MTV, the news is a little worrying:  “[The series] is supposed to represent a new beginning and also pursue a supernatural direction.”

The series is still being penned by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin who worked on Revenge.

Hold on! Supernatural direction?! The one thing the Scream movies stuck hard and fast to was the fact that this was a world of killers but not monsters or magic or anything like that. I’m now officially very skeptical of this one…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
