Word is that the Birds of Prey and the Emancipation of One Harley Quinn sequel is scrapped

July 9th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Well, I can’t say it’s a surprise, but it seems that Warner Brothers have passed on the sequel to this year’s DC outing Birds of Prey and the Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. And no, it wasn’t because of the title.

So, the Cathy Yan directed movie starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, was met with mixed reviews with it being praised for its politics and progressiveness but sadly, because the story was a bit, well, naff (among other reasons) the general audience stayed away in their droves.

As such, while there was still a lot of talk about a sequel and how it may be Poison Ivy and Catwoman’s introduction into this corner of the DCEU, those ofus who looked at the numbers and how much the movie failed to make weren’t buying it.

Actually, I did buy it… a cinema ticket and blu-ray purchase; what can I say, I’m a completist.

The fact that the movie followed the stunning Joker movie and almost completely erased Jared Leto’s Joker from the story likely both didn’t help.

Anyway, so the new report is that no, there will not be a sequel as Warners “no longer believes in the concept or in the creative team behind the movie”.

Man, they really should have hired some of the writers from the superb DC Universe Harley Quinn series rather than just giving it a nod at the very, very, very end of the movie.

Star Robbie and writer Christina Hodson are lining up a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie (here) and Robbie will be seen next year in the sequel to Suicide Squad called, em, The Suicide Squad, so it’s all good there.

Anyway, I want to hear ALL your thoughts on this one, folks…
