You know, when I was a youngster getting into film, I’ve often said that Tim Burton was formative in that period – Batman and Beetlejuice were two of the first movies I ever really noticed, that made me realise there’s a whole medium and artform there to fall in love with and over the years Burton gave me more of those… Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Sweeney Todd, Big Fish, all were there over the years.
However, one of my favorite October watches every year is Sleepy Hollow – the style, the direction, the design, the characters, the legend, Walken, Elfman, it’s all just wonderful and on watching it last Halloween it occurred to me that I would love to see more of Depp’s Ichabod Crane and what he did next… did he investigate more supernatural events or did he become the backbone of the police force of the future? Maybe both?

And lo, it seems that I wasn’t alone in thinking that as it seems that Burton, currently developing Beetlejuice 2, is thinking along those lines too.
Beetlejuice 2 gets release date and confirmation of Jenna Ortega role
It seems that he wants Depp back – no word on Christina Ricci’s Katrina Van Tassel or Marc Pickering’s Young Masbath as of yet – to see where an older and wiser Ichabod ended up.
According to the report, Paramount was developing a reboot/reimagining of the myth with Lindsay Beer writing and directing but Burton’s interest in returning to the story has muddied the waters somewhat.
Personally, I think both could exist with Burton’s movie focusing on the adventures of Ichabod Crane, after all, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow was put to rights by the end of the first movie and Crane must, as they used to say in Ghosthunters, on to the next one; after all, we’ve had a Sleepy Hollow TV series in the years in between, so it’s not that big of an issue, really… but what do I know? Last time I checked, I wasn’t running a movie studio.
Anyways, would you like to see a Sleepy Hollow sequel of sorts with Depp and Burton reuniting to continue the story? Let me know…
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
