Tyrese Gibson is once again talking about playing Green Lantern, John Stewart, in the DC Cinematic Universe, confirming he has already got the ball well and truly rolling.
The actor is making it clear that it was not always his desire to play Green Lantern but the fans are the ones responsible for all this kerfuffle: “I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens. I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t. We’ll just keep following up.”
I like that he’s isn’t just looking to play a black superhero, but has his heart set on Stewart, it proves that he knows what he – and his fans, apparently – want. We like Tyrese and could see him filling out a superhero costume very easily.
With the Green Lantern Corp movie confirmed for 2020, an official announcement may still be a while away but, like Aquaman before, we reckon there’s only so much smoke without fire.
Is Tyrese the man for job? We want to know your opinion…
