OK, Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, was killed in The Avengers move. Then he was announced as the lead in the SHIELD TV series. Confusion ensued.
Well, sort of. We always suspected that Coulson wasn’t really killed in the movie, right? Didn’t we all think that?
Well, Coulson has been confirmed as alive, sort of. ABC President Paul Lee, in an interview with IGN, confirms that SHIELD takes place AFTER Avengers. Ergo, Phil Coulson is alive and well. Yaaaaaaay!
Lee said: “There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York.”
“This is SHIELD. They’re following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from Avengers. So it’s part of the world, but we’re going to be very, very careful that we don’t tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that’s what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He’s built a world for us.”
Now, is it just us or does Tony Stark’s mentioning of Life Model Decoys in Avengers seem like the best way to explain Coulson’s survival? Well, honestly, we don’t mind how they explain it, we’re just glad Phil’s ok!
SHIELD will start filming this month and the pilot will air this fall. We’re confident a series will follow…
