Could Ian McDiarmid be set to play The Emperor in Star Wars: Rebels Season 4?

Now this is interesting….

We know by now that Season 4 of Rebels will be the end of the series (here) so it wouldn’t surprise us if we have a few nice little bonuses and treats in there.

Like this one, perhaps?

A rumour has appeared online that Ian McDiarmid, who played The Emperor and Chancellor Palpatine in the Star Wars movies, has been recording for the new series.

Here’s the details: “Long story short, six months ago, Warwick Davis was recording his lines for Star Wars Rebels Season 4 in London, and just a few days later, none other than Emperor Palpatine himself – Ian McDiarmid – did the same.”

Now, the only thing that casts doubt on this is that The Emperor has already appeared in Rebels and was voiced by FTN favourite Sam Witwer who also voiced Darth Maul in the series. Witwer is a Star Wars regular since he first embodied Galen Merrick in the Force Unleashed games, so it seems unlikely that he will be kicked off the show this season, especially since SPOILERS Darth Maul died at the end of Season 3.

So, what gives if there’s any truth to this? Well… he COULD be the Emperor and, as much as we love Witwer, that would be awesome.

However, we’re wondering if perhaps we’ll see him as Chancellor Sheev Palpatine in a flashback? It would be a good way to have McDiarmid use his own voice in the show AND keep their version of The Emperor intact.

Or… maybe he’s voicing someone else? We doubt this one in fairness… if you have The Emperor, you use The Emperor!

Either way, with the last season coming we’re expeacting big things on the show AND behind the scenes!

What do you all think?
