Could the Obi-Wan series see the story flashback to The Clone Wars?

A fun new rumour has raised its head about the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ that I really hope plays out.

We reported last week that there was a lot of talk indicating that Anakin Skywalker himself, actor Hayden Christensen, was set to return to the role of Anakin – and maybe Darth Vader – in the upcoming series and it had us all here at FTN HQ pretty excited (here).

Of course, given that the series takes place after Anakin has fallen to the Dark Side and become Darth Vader, so we immediately began pondering how he would fit in. Would it be flashbacks (more on that in a minute)? Force visions? Or would he be Darth Vader? Unless he spends time without the mask on, I doubt Christensen would sign on for such a gig.

So flash back came up as the most likely answer. And this new rumour seems to support this.

With The Mandalorian calling back to the events of the Clone Wars and the final season of The Clone Wars not long over, not to mention that The Bad Batch series is Clone Wars spin-off (here), it seems that legendary war is the flavour of the moment in the galaxy far, far away and the Obi-Wan series may dwell there for a time too.

Word is the series will see flashbacks to the Clone Wars which saw Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting side-by-side and this makes sense and could be where Christensen’s Anakin fits in – the actor still looks a lot like he did in the prequels and with minimal CGI or make-up he could probably easily be made to look like the young hero we knew and loved in the prequels.

This would be great because, while we have the Clone Wars series, we have yet to really see the war itself in live-action as Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones ended as the war began and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith came in at the end, so there’s a real potential to see the Jedi in their prime fighting a war they’re destined to lose. And lose big.

With Ahsoka (here) and Captain Rex (here) set for The Mandalorian Season 2, I can forsee a massive story told between all the Star Wars shows and that sounds pretty damned exciting.

What say you? Would you like to see Obi-Wan and Anakin back together again in the Star Wars universe? Or is that a silly question? Let me know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
