So, in all of current Star Wars there’s one corner of the story we want to go back to and, coincidently, the only corner that ended on an amazing cliffhanger and that’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Back in 2019 we heard rumours that a Solo spin-off series was rumored, focusing on Crimson Dawn which was set up at the end of the movie (here), then we reported that actor Alden Ehrenreich, who played Han in the movie, had heard some rumours about the character’s return to the Star Wars universe (here).
Now, however, a slip of the tongue may have revealed more than was planned… or was exactly as planned, who knows?
Disney CEO Bob Chapek said during the JP Morgan Global, Technology, Media And Communications conference (here) discussed Disney’s future content, saying: “In the end, as you know, in entertainment, it’s really all about content. I think over the next… basically by the end of the year we’ve got six Marvel titles.
“We’ve got Black Widow, we’ve got Shang-Chi, we’ve got Loki, we’ve got Hawkeye, we’ve got Ms Marvel. We’ve got What If…? All these great series coming to Disney+.”
Then, we got to the juicy part.
While talking about Star Wars, he said a Han Solo series was being worked on, before quickly correcting himself: “We’ve got Han Solo – or I mean Boba Fett – from Star Wars. Boba Fett from Star Wars, and we’ve got Monsters at Work from Pixar.”
Now, this could be a genuine slip of the tongue or he could have been thinking of the Lando Calrissian series being developed with Donald Glover reprising the role from the Solo movie (here), but I think that it’s possible that, as director Ron Howard said recently, the love for Solo: A Star Wars Story has not gone unnoticed (here).
I can certainly see Ehrenreich appearing in the Lando series but it would feel like a demotion of the character of Han to cameo in a Lando series without his own solo (ahem) series because, look, we love, LOVE, Lando, but Han was the original and best scoundrel in the Star Wars universe.
So, basically what I’m saying is that this could have been a calculated mistake by Chapek to get the fans’ attention or perhaps to gauge the fans’ response but either way, I think we’re going to be seeing more of Han Solo in the Star Wars universe in the near future.
What say you all?
