Scott Pilgrim fans, it’s time to get excited!

Netflix has revealed that they have brought together the entire – yes, all of them – cast of Edgar Wright’s fantasy 201o movie, Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, for an all-new anime series based on creator Brian Lee O’Malley’s original comic series… and more.

Director Wright took to his socials, saying: “This is not a drill! This is happening! After much musing over the years about there being potential for an anime adaptation of ‘Scott Pilgrim’, I’m thrilled to say one is IMMINENT, with the whole cast back together and… you are going to lose your minds.

“One of the proudest, most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim. Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&As and charity read-throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the gang on an actual project. Until now…”

He went on to tease that not only is the series an adaptation of the original books but it does more than just expand the universe: “Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim with the geniuses at [Science SARU Animation Studio] that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also…well, just watch it…”

He has also called it “way more adventurous than just a straight adaptation of the original books.”

In the past, creator O’Malley has teased a secret Scott Pilgrim project (here) and he has teased that he would love to revisit the story, saying (during the lockdowns) that “I would like to revisit the characters [in comic form] and see what they’re up to. I sketched Scott early in the pandemic with a huge beard. I think that would be a funny image.”

Wright’s teases above certainly hint that the new series will go beyond the original story but in what way? Well, who knows, but there’s definitely a big fandom out there that would eat up a sequel/continuation of Scott, Knives, Romona and all the others’ stories… whatever the format.

All the details on the new series are below – we’re just waiting to hear when it’ll be hitting our screens. Soon as possible, hopefully!

The cast from the 2010 film are reprising their roles for the anime:
Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim
Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers
Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel
Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells
Chris Evans as Lucas Lee
Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim
Brie Larson as Envy Adams
Alison Pill as Kim Pine
Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers
Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram
Jason Schwartzman as G-Man Graves
Johnny Simmons as Young Neil
Mark Webber as Stephen Stills
Mae Whitman as Roxanne Richter

Brian Lee O’Malley says he’s working on a secret Scott Pilgrim project…

Bryan Lee O’Malley (original comic creator) serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer along with BenDavid Grabinski (Nickelodean’s 2019 Are You Afraid of the Dark). Edgar Wright (the director and co-writer of the 2010 live-action film) is also an executive producer with his producing partner Nira Park, the film’s co-writer Michael Bacall, and Marc Platt Productions’ Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, and Adam Seigel.

Science SARU (DEVILMAN crybaby, The Heike Story, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) is animating the project with its CEO Eunyoung Choi as producer and Abel Góngora (Star Wars: Visions’ “TO-B1”) as director.

It will feature music by Anamanaguchi and Joseph Trapanese.

Netflix have put out a cool teaser for the series:

Here’s the official Netflix social media announcement:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
