Ok, so the producers of Amazon’s new Fallout series has stepped up to explain where the series takes place in relation to the games and already existing lore.
The interesting thing about the series is that, unlike The Last of Us or Halo, this series isn’t a standalone thing but rather it exists within the world we already know from the games, meaning it has to be very careful how it treads and has a lot of lore and rules that must be respected and obeyed as the story unfolds.
While co-creator – and brother of Christopher – Jonathan Nolan has previously suggested that the series is basically Fallout 5, showrunners and writers Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner have now gone a bit deeper into the lore and explaining what exactly that means.

“We were pulling a little bit from all of the games and because our show is set after the games, we wanted to be true to the mythology of all of the pre-existing games, with the exception of we could not commit to a single ending.
“There are, of any of the individual games, multiple endings to each game, and to choose one would be to imply that some player’s experience of the games was not actually accurate. So, we tried to allow for all of the possible endings of each game to be true while creating a timeline that our show exists after,” Robertson-Dworet says.
Asked the contentious question of which game they drew from the most, Wagner says: “We do get asked that. And I keep jumping and saying like, don’t answer, don’t answer–because the fan base of ‘Fallout’ is massive, and they can’t agree on which is the best one. And that debate is sort of this ongoing thing for years now. And if we show our hand in either direction, I feel like we’ll be favoring one faction of ‘Fallout’ fan over another, whereas keeping them guessing is somehow more delicious to me as an asshole.”
What we do know for sure as of now, is that the series takes place in 2296, a full 200 years after the events of Fallout 76.

Oh, on a related note, California state has awarded a $25 million incentive for season 2 with governor Gavin Newsom saying in a statement: “From bringing Fallout home to keeping classics in California, this program has helped our iconic, world-leading entertainment sector create tens of thousands of good jobs for Californians and generate billions of dollars for communities across the state over the past 15 years.” It should be noted that this does not assure the second season will be made… but it probably helps.
The series stars Ella Purnell as vault-dweller Lucy, Aaron Moten as Maximus, Walton Goggins as The Ghoul; and Kyle MacLachlan as Overseer Hank; it also stars Moises Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan and Xelia Mendes-Jones.
Fallout launches on April 11th on Amazon Prime Video.
UPDATE:
