FIRST LOOK: Image from Godzilla TV series on Apple TV+ released…

August 30th, 2022 by Marc Comments

We have our first look, well, tease, at the Godzilla/Monsterverse series being developed by Legendary Pictures and Apple TV+.

The series will star father and son Kurt and Wyatt Russell (here) and continues the Monsterverse which kicked off in 2014 with Gareth Edward’s Godzilla, then 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021’s Godzilla vs Kong and this new series marks its first adventure on the small screen. An animated Skull Island series is also being developed (here).

It was a surprise that the series wouldn’t be developed on HBO Max but, given all that’s happening at the minute, that’s probably a good thing.

The image gives very little away – it’s only been filming a couple of weeks – but it’s clear that Monarch, the organisation trying to control and stop the titans from being world killers while learning all their secrets, will play a pivotal role. We’re guessing the Russells will be part of the organisation.

This comes a couple of weeks after we learned that Godzilla Vs Kong 2 has kicked off filming in Australia, so the Monsterverse is far-from done yet.

Following the battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the new reality that monsters are real, the untitled series will explore one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.

WandaVision’s Matthew Shakman will direct the first two episodes.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
