First picture released of Powers TV adaptation characters

Production is now underway on the upcoming TV adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’ acclaimed comic Powers for Sony Pictures, and USA Today has posted a first look photo from the series.

The story follows two detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), assigned to investigate superpower-related major crimes. The series is set to launch on the PlayStation Network in December. Executive producer Charlie Huston sees this as an advantage because the show will have network production values but without the content restrictions usually associated with network television:

“My dream was for the show and the books to almost run in parallel universes as they explore the same themes. We’re getting the best of both worlds. We’re getting a network-budgeted show, and we’re getting to dive in as dark and deep as we want to go.”

Dave was born at an early age to parents of both sexes. He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
