Hannibal, Breaking Bad and Twilight director will kick off the Powers TV series

July 9th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Remember we reported a while back that Sony were doing a Sony Playstation Network series based on the Powers graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming?

Well, it seems the series will have David Slade, director of several Hannibal and Breaking Bad episodes and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, looking after the first two episodes, and he’ll exec-produce them too.

The series is expected to debut in December

Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir and police procedural, Powers is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities and where all of those powers are just another catalyst for mayhem and murder. It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below.

Powers is produced by Sony Pictures TV. Circle of Confusion, Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner also will executive produce with Huston and Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies), along with Circle of Confusion’s David Engel, David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis. Huston and Aubuchon will serve as showrunners. SPT will sell internationally.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
