Is Clone Wars set to end after Season 5 now that Disney own it?

February 24th, 2013 by Marc Comments

There is a lot that many fans don’t like about modern Star Wars and there is a few worries over the fact that Disney now own our favourite and some fans fear this may truly be the death knoll for the galaxy far, far away (not here at FTN, we think it’s great news). But one think most fans DO agree on when it comes to modern Star Wars is that the Clone Wars animated show is the best thing to happen to the franchise since the second Deathstar blew up.

But it now seems that the series, currently only one episode from the end of Season 5, may be at an end – although we know for a fact there are episodes finished for season 6 at the very least.

Jimmy Mac, ex-Forcecast co-host and current co-host of Rebel Force Radio (we had Jimmy on our Podcast here), has started asking Clone Wars fans to write a letter to Disney chief Bob Iger as he has heard from ‘sources at Lucasfilm and Disney’ that Disne hate the show and want it gone:

Word is, there is little support for TCW from the new decision-makers at Disney. Regardless about what we have been hearing about production being done on future seasons, publicly, there is NO DEAL IN PLACE FOR TCW SEASON SIX to air on any network. Fan support right now is HUGE as the suits at Disney determine the fate of TCW. If we don’t get an announcement soon about the future of the show, you can, and should, fear the worst. Hasbro has cancelled the CW action figure line, the show will not return on Cartoon Network, and there is a lack of support by the Disney head honchos. GET THE WORD OUT NOW! This is not a time to be passive…As fans, we must be proactive and protect the future of The Clone Wars.

According to the Star Wars Prequel Appreciation Society Hasbro have cancelled the Clone Wars action figures, although they argue this could be because Hasbro’s profits took a major hammering last year. But they do add that, when you look at everything happening in Star Wars at the minute, including the cancellation of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in 3D and the fact that, when Disney acquired Marvel they canelled Earth Mightiest Heroes and replaced it with their own Avengers animated show.

We’re not going to get too upset yet as we’re hearing from our own contacts that, even though Clone Wars is without a home as Cartoon Network have it off their new schedule and Disney XD aren’t saying anything, the sixth series is finished and ready to go.

Either way, we really hope that at the very least we get a conclusion to the series as many characters – Ashoka, Rex, Maul to name a few – are still missing from Revenge of the Sith and need their stories wrapped up.

But, if the series does fall under Disney’s knife, we’d be confident it won’t be the end of Star Wars on our TV screens….

If you feel the best thing to do IS contact Bob Iger then use this address: Walt Disney Studios 500 S. Buena Vista St., Burbank, CA 91521. Keep it sweet if you do, ok?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
