OK, so we avoided posting this earlier because, well, we weren’t sure there was anything to it and with a lot of places reporting it as ‘confirmed’ then saying it was a rumour we stayed clear.
But we’re going to run with it because it really seems to be gathering momentum.
Could Kris Marshall already have been cast as the new Doctor (we threw the image above together just for the record)?
With current Doctor Peter Capaldi revealing that he has already filmed his regeneration (here) not to mention the new series trailer revealing what certainly looks like Capaldi’s regeneration (below), it’s not unbelievable that the new Doctor is already in place.

Marshall has been rumoured for the role more than a few times before and with him leaving his TV series Death In Paradise recently, it certainly lines up.
Anyway, the ‘source close to the show’ says: “Kris Marshall has already joined the cast and will regenerate at the end of this series, not in the Christmas special. They won’t risk a woman Doctor. They want a David Tennant type.”
It isn’t really unexpected that the BBC would probably go back to a younger Doctor again after Capaldi and, in fairness, we suspected a female Time(lady)lord might be too big a risk for the show and given that recently bookies called a stop to taking bets on Marshall suggesting they knew something we didn’t so we do think there could well be something to this.
Marshall previously said of his rumoured involvement that he was “very flattered to be considered by the good public [but] I wouldn’t put any money on it yet”.
What do you think, is he the new Doctor? Either way an announcement from the BBC should be coming soon…
