Is Kumail Nanjiani set to play Booster Gold?

Could James Gunn have found his Booster Gold?

A new rumour is doing the rounds that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and The Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani is set to play the hero in the upcoming DCU series on Max.

Nexus Point News are saying Nanjiani has been cast as Michael John Carter in the series. Gunn, speaking recently abut how he’s asked about the series and the character a lot, said of him: “Booster Gold is one of comic’s really popular cult heroes.

“He is a fascinating guy. He’s a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to present day and become a superhero so that people will love him. It is basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome on an HBO Max series.”

That tells you all you need to know about the character, really. Interestingly, with Xolo Maridueña returning as Jamie Reyes/Blue Beetle in the DCU, it has me wondering if we might see – as we’ve hoped for a long time – Ted Lasson himself, Jason Sudeikis step up to play the original Blue Beetle, Ted Kord and if so, will we get the classic Blue Beetle and Booster Gold team-up? Here’s hoping.

On top of this, our friends at Kight Edge Media, are reporting that The Righteous Gemstones’ Danny McBride, Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri will pen the series.

Will we get more conformation this weekend with SDCC going on? Keep it here to see…
