Last night it broke that Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn was working as an executive producer with Sony Television to bring back Starsky and Hutch.
Which is fun news in itself.
The report read: Gunn will write the project along with his brother Brian Gunn and their cousin Mark Gunn. The three Gunns will also executive produce along with Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Moritz will produce through his Sony-based Original Film banner, at which Shetty is the head of TV.
The show would be based on the TV series starring David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser as two detectives in Bay City with the coolest car around.
The series ran from 1975-1979 and was a big hit in the day. It was remade as a movie a few years ago starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson which was an out and out comedy that, frankly, sucked.
However, the series itself quickly became the least important thing about all this because a great little back-and-forth soon kicked off between Gunn – who warned there’s false information online about the remake – and DC’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns on twitter that made us glow a little:
Lots of misinformation about Starsky & Hutch TV show out there so be wary of what you read! More to come soon, okay?
