A new report has surfaced from Forbes on the state of Star Wars TV’s future and it’s good and bad news, it seems.
First, the very interesting news as scooper Daniel Richtman reports “a show set during Knight of the Old Republic era” is being developed at Lucasfilm/Disney, this backs up Kathleen Kennedy’s comments about a KOTR project in 2019, when she said: “Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now, I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to Star Wars that doesn’t start to feel like too much.”
Kathleen Kennedy reveals Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic movie or TV show is in the works…
Now, on to the not so good news.
According to the trade, the state of the current slate of shows is:
The Mandalorian: Will end with The Mandalorian and Grogu movie next year
Ahsoka: Season 2 coming but three years after season 1
Andor: Season 2 coming this year but it’s the final season
Obi-Wan Kenobi: No plans for season 2
The Book of Boba Fett: No plans for season 2
The Acolyte: Cancelled after season 1
Skeleton Crew: Well received by critics and fans (yes, it’s fun) but viewership is likely too low for season 2.
We also know that Star Wars: Visions will be returning this year for a third season.
Star Wars has unquestionably been damaged by Disney/Lucasfilm; the sequel trilogy, which started so well, soured fans and The Mandalorian won them back to a large degree but sadly over the years, increasingly poor shows have just left many fans jaded to the point that when a decent show appears (Skeleton Crew), no-one wants to watch.
The Bad Batch Season 3 is the last of George Lucas’ input into Star Wars, says star
That said, fans have wanted an Old Republic series, based on the hit video games, for a long time and if Disney/Lucasfilm do move ahead with it, they will need to treat it – and the fans – with respect because if they screw that up, Star Wars may be lost forever.
Thoughts?
In Knights of the Old Republic, it is four thousand years before the Galactic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith. You are the last hope of the Jedi Order. Can you master the awesome power of the Force on your quest to save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side? Hero or villain, saviour or conqueror… you alone will determine the destiny of the entire galaxy!
