It’s going to be very interesting to see how different the four Netflix Marvel series will go as they continue to air on the service. We already know that the Daredevil series will be a “Year One” of sorts for Daredevil and his nemesis Kingpin. A.K.A. Jessica Jones will start after a traumatic event in her life forces her out of being a superhero and into being a private investigator.

And then there’s Luke Cage, who will also be in the Jessica Jones series. Where does he fit into all this story wise? Does he already have his powers? Is he already a hero? What’s his relationship with Jessica? Well, the actor who will play Luke Cage, Mike Colter, dropped some interesting details about the character.

“Marvel actually gives you a special training class in how not to say too much in interviews [laughs]. We’re in the middle of shooting AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is a very interesting character who just happens to have super strength and unbreakable skin. He’s a neighborhood hero, very much linked to New York and Jessica Jones. It’s all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but Luke Cage is a darker, grittier, more tangible character than Iron Man or Thor. He likes to keep things close to his chest, operate on the hush-hush. He has these abilities but he’s not sure how and when to use them. He’s a very nuanced character.”

Interesting, so it’s another take on an origin story of sorts. This will be interesting to see how his development in the Jessica Jones series leads to his own series.

Filming for A.K.A Jessica Jones is currently underway and the series is expected to stream in late-2015/early-2016.
