Netflix cancels Altered Carbon before third season

August 28th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Have to say, I didn’t see this coming.

Netflix have pulled the plug on Altered Carbon after two seasons and an Anime movie earlier this year. This would seem to support rumours that despite starring Avengers’ Anthony Mackie, the second season didn’t score the views the first season, fronted by Joel Kinnaman, did.

I hear Netflix’s decision not to proceed with further seasons was made in April and is not COVID-related but stems from the streamer’s standard viewership vs. cost renewal review process. (Netflix recently canceled two previously renewed series, The Society and I Am Not OK With This, citing COVID-related circumstances.)

The series, based on the 2002 novel by Richard K Morgan, the show was similar in many ways to that of Blade Runner, with serious Sci-fi tropes and plot devices throughout, it was always worth watching even in its dullest moments.

As I say, with two seasons and an anime movie in the can, Netflix certainly seemed happy to go all-in, but something obviously changed along the way.

Anyway, let us know what you thought of Altered Carbon and if you’re sorry to see it go.
