Remember we told you a new Muppets Show was in the works (here)?
Well, we expected it to be the classic format… you know the drill, Statler and Waldorf hassling the Muppets as they put on a live show. But it seems we were wrong…
According to EW it will be a more adult show, a “mockumentary-style series that goes deeper into the Muppets’ personal lives”.
Um, ok.
It will follow the Muppets as they try to get their iconic stage show back up and running: “The series will be shot mock-documentary style, like Arrested Development and The Office.”
“In what’s being billed as a first for The Muppets, the personal lives of the characters will be explored. ABC’s official new logline reads: “The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that—for the first time ever—will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.”
We’re not convinced… this seems a big departure from the show we know and love. But, we’re always up for new things. Probably.
