New Supernatural spinoff will star Eckles but gives cold-shoulder to Paladecki

Bittersweet news as a new Supernatural spinoff is announced with star Jensen Ackles set to return.

The new series, according to reports, “will tell the story of Sam and Dean’s parents John and Mary (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith on “Supernatural”). The potential series is described as “the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

Ackles’ Dean Winchester, below, will bookend and narrate the episodes of the new series, firmly tying it into the long-running (15 seasons!) but now-finished hit CW series. He will also produce.

The series will be penned by Supernatural writer Robbie Thompson.

However, the news of the show being developed was, it seems, not just a surprise to the fans.

Other Supernatural star Jared Padalecki, who played Dean’s brother, Sam, took to Twitter and it seems he was as shocked as anyone: “Dude,” he wrote, “Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

When a fan suggested it was a joke and Padalecki must be involved, the star said: “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.”

Obviously this annoyed fans of the decade and a half series who angrily took to Twitter complaining about the ignoring of Padalecki, however, the star soon called for calm, writing:  “Thank you for the love. Please PLEASE don’t send any hate or threats. I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened.”

He soon informed the fans that he has spoken with his onscreen brother, Ackles, and all is well: “[Jensen] and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve traveled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers.”

I would imagine this stings for Padalecki for sure, but I also can’t help feeling that, should this get picked up, it won’t be too long until he’s involved in the series. You can’t have a Supernatural show without Dean and Sam.

Ackles can currently be heard voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Long Halloween.

What say you all? I want to hear ALL these thoughts, gang.
