Ooooooooh… the news about the RoboCop reboot just got much more interesting.
The Guest and Abigail star Dan Stevens has been cast as the future of law enforcement in Prime Video’s new Robocop TV series from James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions.
This is a massive win for the reboot as Stevens is one of the most watchable stars currently working today, so while I was curious before, now I am pretty much straight up keen to see what this show is going to be.
Stevens shared the image left on social media earlier today, of himself with short, bleached hair, and a NECA Robocop figure on a shelf behind him.
Written and showrun by Peter Ocko, the new eight-part series will follow the storyline of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven classic movie, with Stevens taking on the role made famous by Peter Weller of a gunned-down police officer, Alex Murphy, whose body is taken and used as the organic part of a near-unstoppable cyborg police officer:
In the Robocop series, a giant tech conglomerate persuades the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved fallen officer, Alex Murphy (Stevens).
Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global TV Peter Friedlander previously said of the series: “Peter Ocko has crafted a vision that honors the soul of what made the original so enduring while building something entirely fresh and urgent for today.

It’ll be a challenge for Ocko and co to capture the biting commentary and wit that made the original Robocop, written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, so special, but it seems that in a world that the first movie almost seemed to be warning us about, controlled by massive, soulless corporations, now might be the perfect time to bring back Alex Murphy once more.
As of now, it’s unknown if the new series will be a sequel/follow-up to the original movie – we don’t talk too much about the sequels, TV shows, remake or animated series – or its own new reimagining.
I guess we’ll know soon enough.
