Rebel Ridge star clinches John Stewart role in DCU Green Lantern series

James Gunn and Peter Safran have found their third – and likely main – Green Lantern for their DCU.

Nathan Fillion will be the first Green Lantern we meet in the DCU when he plays Guy Gardner in Superman next year. After that we will meet Kyle Chandler’s [now confirmed] Hal Jordan in the Lanterns TV series and now we’ll also meet Rebel Ridge star Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

Stewart has been one of the most anticipated bits of casting in the new DCU, overshadowed perhaps only by the [as yet unknown] casting of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Word is the series has a ‘gritty, True Detective vibe as it focuses on Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart. The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. Sources say that DC and the producers are looking for a young, more fresh-faced actor for the role to play opposite an older and bigger name.’

I have to be honest, outside of Rebel Ridge, I am unfamiliar with Pierre’s body of work but his performance in that movie has me feeling confident that he, along with Chandler [it’s unlikely Fillion’s Guy Gardner will appear in Lanterns as he has already finished filming on Superman, the DCU’s first live-action movie] will deliver the goods completely in the Green Lantern series.

The DCU continues to grow and every new announcement has us more and more excited than the last.

Thoughts? I know you have them, guys…

Looks like the DCU has cast its Hal Jordan/Green Lantern
