Bit of a League of Gentlemen reunion on the new series of Doctor Who? Yes please.

Reece shearsmith will appear in the new series in an episode written by his old pal Mark Gatiss. The duo can be seen below in The League Of Gentlemen movie along with Steve Pemberton and above in, em, real life.

Shearsmith said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode. It has been so exciting to be part of a very singular episode – which, I can say with authority will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who. It’s a joy to play a part in the show – certainly a badge of honour.”

Gatiss promises something really scary for fans too: “I’m very excited about this particular story. It’s been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now! I’m also chuffed to bits to finally welcome my old friend Reece Shearsmith onto the show. He’s been badgering me for ten years!”

Right, Gatiss, get Pemberton on the phone, the TARDIS needs to stop in Royston Vasey! “Don’t touch the things!”

Eagle-eyed fans will recall that Shearsmith played Patrick Troughton in Gatiss’ An Adventure in Space and Time, which starred David Bradley as William Hartnell for the show’s 50th anniversary, so he’s not exactly a stranger to Who.

Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on 19th September
