One of the saddest celebrity losses in recent years was that of Ray Stevenson who played Baylen Skoll in the Ahsoka series.
Stevenson, who comes from about ten miles from where I live, was a talented actor who starred in Dexter, Punisher: War Journal as well as the Thor movies, but it was a Skoll that he really found his audience. His loss was felt not just because he was a great actor but because his character was, no exaggeration, one of the most complex and exciting that Star Wars had introduced in a long, long time.

Because he was so intricate to Ahsoka’s ongoing story, fans had been wondering how the loss would be handled in the show, and it seems that recasting is the way forward.
Word is that Hot Fuzz and Game of Thrones star Rory McCann, left as the Hound in Game of Thrones, will be taking over the role of Baylen in Ahsoka season 2.
While it’s unclear how Skoll’s story will continue, the casting of McCann means that it’s going to be a big part of the story and I’d wager we’ll even see it carrying over into the Dave Filoni movie coming in the next couple of years too.
I’m a big fan of McCann and his range is unquestionable – I just don’t know if he can step into Stevenson’s shoes on this one but I really hope he does and it’ll be fun having him in Star Wars, no matter what happens.
Anyway, what do you think? Should they have recast? Should they kill the character off? Let me know your thoughts…
