Now, this we could get behind.
Out of all the cameos and nods in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, the one that got most tongues wagging (well, until the second last episode’s massive one) was Brandon Routh’s return as Superman.
The character he played in 2006’s Superman Returns was the continuation of Christopher Reeve’s iconic take on the character, so in essence, this means Crisis gave us a modern day continuation of THAT Superman and in the episodes he had become the Kingdom Come version of the character.
A Superman who had lost everything – including his friends and his love, Lois Lane – during an attack by The Joker on The Daily Planet.
And, while it was fun to have him return in the Crisis event, we couldn’t help but feel there was much, much more to tell.
And we may see that happen.
A new rumour is surfacing that Routh, after the phenomenal success of his appearance in Crisis, may get another chance at the blue and red in a limited series.
And, while this will likely appear on The CW, there’s talk that it may actually head of to HBO Max’s streaking service when it finally appears and, as we reported before, there is chatter that the HBO shows and The CW’s Arrowverse will connect… although, anyone who has seen Crisis will know that there is no Arrowverse anymore, but rather the DC Multiverse, so one could argue they all connected in the end.
This could be a massive series for whoever brings it to screen – hypothetically – as this Superman when we met him has seen things… and the crossover of Joker into hat world? Well, I’m not saying we’d like to see Mark Hamill play the character or we’d love to see Kevin Conroy step into the live-action Bruce Wayne boots again but, well, we really would.
For now it’s just speculation… but that’s the best part of being a fan, apart from it actually happening, of course.
What say you all? Let me know in the usual ways…
