RUMOUR: Wolverine anthology series set for Disney+

April 18th, 2021 by Marc Comments

So far, I have to be honest, the Marvel Disney+ content has been… fine.

But I hoped for more, especially with The Mandalorian being so good, I’d hoped that the Marvel stuff would hit the same level of quality. Although, it their defense, I will say that I know that damned virus impacted on filming both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and also, Loki looks amazing and I can’t wait to see it.

However, perhaps what they really need is a mutant. And not just any mutant.

What they need is Weapon X.

Yes, word on the street is that Disney and Marvel bossman Kevin Feige are working on a Wolverine series for the streamer.

Now, this rumour wants you to know that a new Wolverine has not been found yet, so we don’t know who will have the adamantium claws.

But what it does seem clear on is that, given how Wolverine is immortal and has been alive a long, long time, the series will be an anthology, putting our ageless hero in different time periods each season with a new story each year and, honestly, this sounds pretty great.

“My sources tell me that for the longest time Wolverine was the hardest of these characters [the X-Men/mutants] as he’s one with a huge host of stories, but Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are confident that an anthology series can safely explore Wolverine’s vast history without affecting any role that he would have in an X-Men film,” says the rumour.

This is actually very smart as it could re-introduce Wolverine and have him dip in and out of other Marvel and X-Men movies, while having his story told weekly on Disney+. The rumour also claims that the Weapon X storyline – wherein Wolverine is bonded to his adamantium skeleton and then has his memory wiped and is used as a weapon – is set to kick off the series.

The series is currently being written and there is no talent attached yet.

If this turns out to be true, it’s very exciting and we’ll keep you all abreast of any developments.

Thoughts? I want to hear them…
