SDCC 2022: First details on Marvel’s What If..? Season 2 and Mavel Zombies revealed

July 22nd, 2022 by Marc Comments

We finally have some new details on Marvel’s What If..? season 2 all the way from SDCC 2022.

While not much was revealed, we learned that the second season will arrive next year, will heavily feature Hailey Atwell’s Captain Carter again – makes sense, given how last season ended and will have stories featuring:

A Hela story
A medieval episode taking place in 1602 – likely based on Neil Gaiman’s “Marvel 1602” in which Stephen Strange and other superheroes exist in Elizabethan England
A racing episode with Valkyrie and Iron Man on Sakaar
And a Peggy and Steve Rogers reuniting episode.
Odin vs The Mandarin
Captain Carter meeting Winter Soldier

On top of this, it was also announced that season 3 is already in production, so expect the Multiverse to be around for a long time to come.

Oh, and in case you were wondering if the Captain Carter that came to a grizzly end at Wanda’s hands in Multiverse of Madness was the Carter from What If..?, we were assured it was not: “Our Captain Carter would have kicked Wanda’s ass.”

Never had a moment’s doubt. Also, I’d watch that ass-kicking.

As for Marvel Zombies, well…

After the lighthearted debut of the Marvel Zombies in What If..? season one, we’re happy to hear that the full series will be darker and have a TV-MA rating meaning it’s not for the little ‘uns.

From SDCC we also learned we’ll see zombie versions of Ghost, Abomination, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Okoye and half a Captain America:

On the side of the heroes still alive, will be Jimmy Woo, Kate Bishop, Yelena, Shang Chi, Red Guardian and Ms Marvel, some of which you can see from the concept art below:

Also, we’ll meet a team of Skrulls and a team of Black Widows all out to survive the new world of the dead too:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
