SDCC: HBO Announces GoT Season 5 Cast Additions

July 26th, 2014 by Dave Bowling Comments

HBO has confirmed some of the new cast and characters for the fifth season of Game of Thrones at SDCC, with many of them appearing in a video that was shown on Friday. Among the new actors and the characters they will portray are:

Alexander Siddig as Doran Martell, ruling lord of Dorne and older brother to the late Prince Oberyn Martell. Unlike his brother, Doran is even- tempered and deliberate. The people of Dorne now wait to see how their lord will react to his brother’s death.

Toby Sebastian as Trystane Martell, Doran’s son and heir to Dorne. His father betrothed him to Myrcella Baratheon as part of an alliance offered by Tywin Lannister.

Nell Tiger Free Myrcella Baratheon, supposedly the eldest child of Cersei Lannister and the late King Robert Baratheon, though her father is really Jaime Lannister, Cersei’s brother (oh Game of Thrones, how do you get away with it?). For years she has been a guest and ward of Prince Doran, betrothed to his son, but her position has become tenuous with the death of Oberyn, the Prince’s brother.

DeObia Oparei as Areo Hotah, the long-serving captain of Doran Martell’s palace guard, renowned for his loyalty and his longaxe.

Enzo Cilenti as Yezzan, formerly an extremely wealthy slave trader before Daenerys Targaryen outlawed the slave trade.

Jessica Henwick as Nymeria “Nym” Sand, second eldest of the late Prince Oberyn’s bastard daughters. Her mother was an Eastern noblewoman who brought Nym up to be cultured, graceful and deadly accurate with a whip.

Rosabell Laurenti Sellers as Tyene Sand, daughter of Oberyn Martell by Ellaria Sand, his last mistress. Tyene is not as innocent as she looks and is dangerous when armed with two knives.

Keisha Castle-Hughes as Obara Sand, eldest bastard daughter of Oberyn Martell. Her mother was a Dornish peasant girl and Obara herself a skilled warrior.

Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow, a pious man who came to King’s Landing to work with the poor, downtrodden and infirm, amassing a large following in the process. His followers have swarmed over the city, tending the poor and condemning the corruption of the rich.

The multiple award-winning fantasy series concluded its ten-episode fourth season in June, with the fifth season scheduled to launch in 2015. No word on whether any of the new arrivals will survive it, but hey, best of luck…

He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
