Seth MacFarlane confirms filming has completed on The Orville season 3 with FX under way

August 28th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Things have been very quiet on The Orville front recently, with us hearing very little since last October when creator/star Seth MacFarlane confirmed that the show was still a big priority at its new home, Hulu (it starter on Fox in 2017) and season 3 was still coming.

And we heard mumblings since then that it was still happening – which is great as the show’s first two seasons were superb and showed that Star Trek can still be done properly… even if it’s not actually Star Trek.

But now it seems that, and I can’t believe we knew nothing about this, the third season has wrapped filming.

“And that is a wrap on season 3 of The Orville! Thank you to our incredible cast and crew for all their tireless and brilliant work,” MacFarlane wrote on Twitter(below), before adding a little ominously: “And I sincerely hope this is not the last time we all go to space.”

He also praised the FX work on the show and said he’s excited for the fans to see it: “The visual effects masters at @fusefx have raised things to the next level for #TheOrville season 3 — can’t wait for you all to see what they’ve created!”

We reported (here) last October that they were halfway through filming when that damned pandemic hit: “We were, like, pushing through the middle of the season, scripts were banging out, gas pedal down, and then it was like, ‘Halt!'”

But I hadn’t even realised they had started filming. But they have. And now they’re done.

The Orville started in season one as funny space adventure but, while it kept a lot of the laughs, it soon became a more straight-faced space exploration show in very much the same vein as Star Trek and it’s really rather great, if you’ve not been watching it, I’d seriously recommend checking out the first two seasons before the third hits.

Anyway, no word on when this will air but knowing it’s filmed and the effects work is underway means it will be sooner rather than later.

Cannot wait.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
