SPOILERS: Star Wars favourite talks about return to iconic role for Obi-Wan Kenobi series

SPOILERS for the finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi!

We had all speculated/hoped that Liam Neeson would return as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and, while it took to the show’s dying seconds, we weren’t disappointed.

As the series closed out, Qui-Gon appeared to Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), telling him that had much to cover… and we all know that means Kenobi is now going to learn from his former Master, as was hinted in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, how to return as a Force Ghost when he died, as we saw him do against Vader in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Now, Neeson has spoken about returning to the role he first made famous in 1999, 23 years ago.

“I certainly didn’t want anyone else playing Qui-Gon Jinn, and I wanted to show my respect for George [Lucas] and that mythical world that he created,” Neeson said.

“Plus, Ewan [McGregor] is a pal, and I loved working with him during The Phantom Menace 25 years ago.”

We love that he did it as he couldn’t face anyone else playing the iconic role, but we don’t care why he came back, just that he did.

Neeson, for many fans, was the best thing about Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and while we saw him return as Jinn in The Clone Wars and will again soon in Tales of the Jedi, nothing beats having him back in live-action, em, as a ghost, to bring back all those great memories of how exciting it was when Phantom Menace came out and we finally got to see the Jedi at their height.

It’s great to have yu back Qui-Gon and if we get a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, we look forward to seeing you again.
