The Arrow/Flash/Supergirl/Legends crossover event gets Russell Tovey as The Ray and an awesome poster

Look, we love the MCU and the DC Cinematic Universe but the one we love the most is The CW DC Universe.

Why?

Well, with Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Constantine, Legends of Tomorrow and the upcoming Black Lightnening, it pretty much give us comic book goodness for half the year… and it unashamedly wears its comicbook origins with pride.

So the big annual crossover event is quickly becoming a big part of the nerd calendar just before Christmas each year.

And this year’s, called Crisis On Earth-X, looks like it’s going to be massive.

Firstly – that poster (above) is beautiful! Drawn by artist Phil Jiminez, the poster shows that the event will take place around the wedding of Iris West and Barry Allen and it features evil versions of Supergirl and Green Arrow (more on that in a while).

Other interesting things to note… The Ray is there (bottom right) as well as Zari. We also see returning villains The Dark Archer, Killer Frost and Reverse Flash.

Man, this is going to be packed.

Here’s the official tagline: With all of the heroes in town to celebrate Barry and Iris’s wedding, villains from Earth-X crash the festivities with a deadly agenda.

You may recall we first met The Ray (or at least The CW version of him – the character’s been around since 1973) at SDCC along with some of the villains from Earth-X when the trailer was revealed for the CW Seed animated series:

The animated series, is set in a parallel universe wherein The Nazis won the war and now it’s up to a group of Freedom Fighters led by The Ray to save the world.

Interestingly we also learned that Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist will play her evil counterpart in the show, Overgirl (here). This got us thinking… since Tovey will voice The Ray in the animated show and play him on screen, much as Mari McCabe played Vixen in the animated series and originally on Arrow (she’s returning to the shows soon by the way (here)), could we see Benoist play Overgirl too?

We’re willing to say it’s likely… what do you all think?

Adding to the awesomeness is the news that Russell Tovey, star of Being Human (UK) and Graboids, has signed on to play The Ray!

This is awesome news as Tovey is one of our favourite actors (he should have played The Doctor by now!) and to have him The CW’s DC Universe? Yes, please!

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

Or will we see Arrow’s Stephen Amell as his evil counterpart?

We’re willing to say it’s likely… what do you all think?

The four-part DC TV crossover airs on Monday, November 27th and Tuesday, November 28th… Christmas comes early again thanks to The CW!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
