Tim Olyphant will wear Boba Fett’s armour in The Mandalorian Season 2

After the news last week that Justified and Deadwood star Tim Olyphant was set to appear in The Mandalorian Season 2 (here), we’ve been trying to work out who he was set to play and now we may have a clue.

A new report has apparently shed some light on the role he’ll play and perhaps even the character he’ll be.

Olyphant will, per the report, play Cobb Vanth, ‘a former slave who becomes the self-appointed sheriff of Tattooine after the fall of Jabba the Hutt’.

On top of that, it seems he will have a very familiar outfit… the iconic armour of Boba Fett, who will apparently be played in season 2 by Temuera Morrison (here).

Wait, he’ll have Boba’s armour?!

Well, according to the report: “Introduced in Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath book series, Vanth is the self-appointed sheriff of the Tatooine-based settlement Freetown. He wears a mysterious set of Mandalorian armor that was acquired from Jawas who scavenged the wreckage of Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi.

“As you may recall, that was the site of a battle where Boba Fett was thrown into the Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine’s Dune Sea. It’s assumed that the Mandalorian armor purchased by Vanth is none other than the infamous green armor formerly worn by one of the galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunters, Boba Fett.”

Oh, man… will we see a story where Boba Fett is nursed to health and comes to collect what is rightfully his from Vanth? This could be pretty exciting news and a lot of fun to see play out on screen.

That said, there is another legacy character that Olyphant could also be, and that’s Jodo Kast.

In the comics Kast wore armour similar to Fett’s and earned money by taking bounties that people believed they were selling to Fett.

According to one of our Nerdy guys, Dave, however: “Timeline is similar for both [Kast and Vanth] and similar story behind the armour, although Kast repainted his armour to look like Boba’s and Vanth bought his armour from the Jawas. Kast died in 5ABY [yes, we still stick to the original Lucasfilm timeline] and Mandalorian is set around 9ABY”

So, if they stick to continuity, Kast is dead by the time The Mandalorian takes place.

Oh well, I thought I was being clever.

It looks like Season 2 is going to be a major deep-dive into the Star Wars lore and that’s just fine by me.

The Mandalorian returns in October to Disney+
