ReBoot was awesome.
Aside from being the first fully computer animated TV series when it premiered back in 1994, it was fun, inventive, took pops at popular culture and had moments of legitimate terror. All from a 90s kids cartoon. For the uninitiated, it told the story of Bob, a computer Guardian posted to the city of Mainframe, which was basically the hard drive of somebody’s PC. There, Bob had to fight off viruses Megabyte and Hexadecimal, and frequently play the antagonist in video games played by the User, with help from Mainframe residents Dot Matrix and her younger brother Enzo.
And now, Canadian channel YTV have announced its return with ReBoot – the Guardian Code.
However, as this tweet from YTV shows, things aren’t how you might remember them…

That’s right, it’s live action. How? Why? It was announced that Rainmaker Animation, the company holding the rights to the series, was commissioned to produce a 26-episode series back in 2015 but nothing seemed to be happening. Now, this. Apparently filming has been going on for nearly two months at this stage. According to Rainmaker’s website, The Guardian Code will feature “an all-new ReBoot universe that will provide a ground-breaking, multi-platform experience for the next generation of ReBoot fans.” So yeah, definite reboot rather than continuation.
There’s no other news yet, not even a cast or crew list, but we’ll keep you posted as and when we know anything.
Some people just wanna suck the joy out of everything…
