TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends of Tomorrow Season 7 Episode 12: Too Legit To Quit

February 24th, 2022 by Todd Black Comments

…do you know how close I came…to giving this episode a 5/5? Because we were SO CLOSE to getting rid of Gary Green…and then what do they show in the trailer for the season finale…? HE’S ALIVE!!! GOSH DANG IT!!!!!

…calming down…he could still die…he could still die…

Aside from the lack of Gary killing, “Too Legit To Quit” was honestly one of the best episodes of LOT this season (by a large margin). Mainly because it posed honest to goodness thought-provoking questions, all the while giving the Legends a glimpse of what could be…as well as how the show could.

To be clear, LOT (to my knowledge) has NOT been renewed for an 8th season (and I’d honestly be fine if they didn’t continue it given the lack of quality this season), but we do know a certain character is showing up to tease what may happen. But if that WASN’T the case…they honestly had a fair way to write off the crew…without betraying them all.

In short, a lucky move (yes, Spooner, luck does exist) put the Legends in a stalemate with Evil Gideon. our own Gideon figures out that the way to save the timeline as a whole is to keep Evil Gideon going, have our Gideon be the Captain, and then the Legends…retire. It sounds ridiculous at first, but as we get the glimpses into their potential futures (time is always malleable if you recall), you got to see why they would be willing to say goodbye despite all their adventures.

Spooner would live with her mom, AvaLance has a kid who adores them, Nate writes the book he’s always wanted to, Astra goes into politics (proving there’s still a little devil in her) but is an advocate for change (showing her true growth as a character), Behrad becomes a voice of love and peace, and Zari 2.0 becomes one of the most influential people ever. Perfect futures…more or less. Quinn lives alone without his love, but he was happy with that…for the most part.

And yes, I was VERY happy that the Legends knew that this could be a Con to get them off the ship, but again, if this was the end…it was a fair one. I even appreciated how Zari 2.0 DIDN’T like her future because she wanted to be more than just an influencer who made things, she wanted to be “more heroic”, and Nate’s speech about legacy was very heartfelt.

As was Zari/Ava’s plan to get Quinn’s love Allan back so that he could have his happy ending. In fact, that exact plan was one I had thought of before because Quinn admitted that he didn’t see Allan’s death, just the aftermath. So that loophole would work in the favor of the Legends.

…and sure enough, to save the timeline, Gideon got Allan before them…right?

Not exactly. You see, easily the biggest fault of “Too Legit To Quit” was that you KNEW something was going to go wrong due to how this WASN’T the season finale. And sure enough, that WASN’T Allan! It was a robot…because somehow his death is a fixed point…somehow…

Quinn realized this and is now out to get back his love at all costs, which will bring the Legends back into the fold and here we go again.

Another problem was the yet another instance where OG Zari could’ve saved the day by using her ACTUAL tech skills to ensure Gideon didn’t screw them over…but again…they didn’t use her.

Finally, and further proof that Gary Green NEEDED TO DIE!!!! That final scene was just cringe. Gary needing time to understand what Gideon did was honestly fine. But Gideon accepting Gary leaving without question? Really Gideon? Also, why did the Legends (and Gideon) think that Evil Gideon would play by the rules? She already killed her creator before and replaced the team with really bad and dumb versions of them. Did they really think she’d play fair the moment an opportunity presented itself to not do that? Exactly.

Still, compared to other episodes, “Too Legit To Quit” was very strong and setup a season finale that could be very interesting…especially if “that character” shows up like fans expect him too.

4/5
