Up, up and away – Supergirl cancelled after season 6

September 23rd, 2020 by Marc Comments

Well, Arrow was first last year, but now Supergirl is the second hero in the Arrowverse to have her series cancelled.

The word broke late last night that Superman’s cousin, Kara, is set to have her show pulled after the set to film later this month season six is done.

The CW, Warner Bros Television and Berlanti Productions announced the news.

Star Melissa Benoist took to social media shortly after the news broke:

“To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless. She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful.

“I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season.”

The show’s cancellation is in the same season that we see Superman getting his own Arrowverse series (here) and leaves behind The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and Batwoman which has recently appointed a new titular star in Javicia Leslie (here).

While I have great admiration and respect for what The CW has done with its massive Arrowverse, populated with heroes and villains from all across the DC Universe, there’s no arguing that that quality of the shows has been getting progressively worse over the last few seasons and Supergirl was probably the worst of the lot.

Anyway, let me know what you think about the news. Will you be sad to see Kara and the team leave? Do you expect to see her cameo from time-to-time on the Superman and Lois series? I want to hear it all.
